Dr Adrian is a graduate of the University of Sydney and had worked in Australia where he completed the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons(Pt I) qualification before furthering his training in Singapore, the United Kingdom and the United States.
Dr Saurajen was responsible for the running of the TTSH(Part of National HealthCare Group) Sleep Apnoea Clinic previously. This was then the only combined multi-disciplinary sleep clinic in Singapore and he was instrumental in coordinating specialists from different disciplines and hospitals to treat sleep patients. This collaboration involved not only cross-cluster management but also involved physicians from the private sector. He currently sees over 400 snorers a year.
Dr Saurajen is also one of the more innovative surgeons in the region to do some of the more complex snoring operations. He has travelled very widely and has performed these new procedures locally. This includes the palatal advancement pharyngoplasty, the repose suture surgery for the tongue base, the coblation-assisted pharyngoplasty and tonsillotomy under local anaesthesia and the intracapsular tonsillectomy(using the microdebrider)( this is less painful that the traditional tonsillectomy).
Dr Saurajen's interests are in minimally invasive surgeries in reshaping the upper airway. Apart from completing a fellowship in sleep medicine and surgery, he has also completed a 4 year Masters of Medicine programme in Sleep Medicine with the University of Sydney. This would make him one of the handful of surgeons worldwide who have training both in sleep medicine and sleep surgery.
Dr Saurajen is also the first surgeon in South East Asia to perform the balloon sinuplasty which is a new minimally invasive procedure for sinusitis where a balloon is cannulated into the sinus openings and then insufflated to open up the sinus openings.
