Specialists' Accreditation
Specialists' Accreditation

To be accredited as a medical specialist, an application has to be made for residency training in that particular specialty. In general, specialist training takes six years and the first three years is known as the Basic Specialist Training (BST) and the next three years Advanced Specialist Training (AST). At the end of BST, the medical doctor is required to pass an examination before proceeding to AST. At the end of AST, the doctor must be granted exit certification in that specialty and to obtain the Certificate of Specialist Accreditation from the Specialist Accreditation Board.

All Singapore dental practitioners must register with the Singapore Dental Council (SDC). Licensed dental professionals are trained in diagnosing, preventing and treating oral diseases. After graduating, many dentists will then go on to pursue further qualifications in various specialties such as Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Periodontics, Orthodontics, Endodontics and Prosthodontics. It is also essential that our dental professionals constantly update their skills and knowledge to keep up with the rapid changes in dental practices, hence continuing education ensures that they stay up-to-date with the latest advances in their specialities.
